The Skiing

Les Houches is the regular venue for Chamonix World Cup Downhill but is in fact well suited to families, beginners and intermediates, with easy runs at the top of the mountain.

Le 'Verte' piste in Les Houches is green in name only, for this famous slope is in fact a black run of 3343 metres in length with 870 metres of decline. The best skiers in the world race down the slope in just under two minutes. With its series of technical passages and jumps, including La Cassure and le Goulet, the Verte is perceived as one of the most beautiful and demanding downhill slopes in the world.
For over 60 years now, Les Houches has been welcoming international competitions. Each year the Verte hosts the Kandahar downhill and slalom events on the world cup circuit. Since 1988, Les Houches also hosts the telemark world cup.

It offers 70 kilometres of almost entirely wooded slopes form the biggest single area of prepared runs in the Chamonix valley.

The slopes are normally quiet and the views superb from the several attractive mountain restaurants. For the more daring the resort possesses 3 ski jumps coupled with endless off piste opportunities.

As part of the Mont-Blanc Ski domain, you have access to 700km of slopes and the 343 official pistes that include the skiing in Chamonix, Argentiere, le Tour and, in the other direction, Megeve and St Gervais. Les Houches therefore provides an excellent base for a holiday with a mixed ability group or family.
